How to light them

  1. Fill your vase at least halfway with clean liquid paraffin lamp oil, no higher than the shoulder.
  2. Stand the three candles in the vase.
  3. Let them soak for 30 minutes or more, the first time and after every refill.
  4. Light each candle at its tip.

Care

  • Flame uneven or smoky? Blow it out, let the candle cool, lift it out and tap it gently on the table, then relight.
  • Flame dies on its own? The oil has dropped too low. Top up, soak and relight.
  • Put out by blowing gently across the flame, or with a snuffer. Never dip a lit candle into the oil.

How it works

Fill, soak, light. Then refill, for years.

  1. Fill

    Pour the oil in through the funnel, at least halfway and no higher than the shoulder of the vase.

  2. Soak 30 minutes

    Stand the candles in and wait 30 minutes before lighting, the first time and after every refill. A dry wick will not hold a flame.

  3. Light

    Keep the wick at 5 to 7 mm above the metal for a small, still flame. Blow gently across it, or use a snuffer, to put it out.

Questions about the candle

Oil candles are new to most homes. These are the questions we get asked.
Is it scented? Plus Minus
No, on purpose. We make fragrance for a living, so we know when to leave it out. The candle gives light; the diffuser beside it gives scent, and the two never compete.
Is it a diya? Plus Minus
No. It is a decor light for the table and the console. A paraffin lamp is not a ritual lamp, so keep your diya for the puja and let this one light the room.
Can I use kerosene? Plus Minus
Never. Kerosene smokes, smells and can flare. Use Azhara Eternal Oil or any clean liquid paraffin lamp oil.
Can I add fragrance oil or essential oil to the vase? Plus Minus
No. Fragrance and essential oils soot, clog the wick and can flare. Keep them in the diffuser, where they belong.
How long does the oil last? Plus Minus
The box holds 500 mL. A short wick, 5 to 7 mm, burns slowest, and lighting one candle instead of three makes it last longer still. When a flame dies on its own, the oil has dropped below the candle tip: top up, soak and relight.
Do the wicks wear out? Plus Minus
No. The wicks are permanent. A dark crust can form on the tip over time; wipe it off with a dry paper towel. Never push the wick with your fingers.
Does it smoke? Plus Minus
Not when the wick is short and you use the oil we supply. A tall wick, a dry wick or the wrong oil are the three causes of smoke.
How do I put it out? Plus Minus
